Unwanted Attention After Gaining Weight

There are many positive aspects to gaining weight, but there’s one I didn’t expect: unwanted attention.

I’m happy at my current weight, and I’ve accepted the way I look. For me, it’s about how I feel, not how I look. But after gaining weight, I’ve started receiving a lot of unwanted attention—mostly from older men at grocery stores, or even random comments and pick-up lines on the street, and this is not only by older men. This caught me off guard and made me feel uncomfortable for so long.

It made me wonder if this was one of the reasons I started losing weight as a teen—to avoid this kind of attention. Now, I’ve gotten used to it, but it still doesn’t feel right. When it happens, I’ve found that confronting these people by simply asking, “Do you have a problem?” is often the best way to make them feel stupid and to not give them the power of making me feel it’s my fault.

I’m sharing this because it’s a topic that’s rarely discussed. It’s important to think about that sometimes, gaining weight, brings challenges we might not expect, and it might bring up a lot of realizations.
